Welcome to another season of camping at Grandfather Campground! We are open here all year, so come and visit during the summer and the ski season. We have 30 and 50 amp full hookup sites, tent sites, and several types of cabin rentals. We are located close to Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, Boone, and Banner Elk. If you plan to visit us in the winter months (December to March) we highly recommend four wheel drive vehicles and keep an eye on the weather forecasts for snow and ice. We also have freezing weather procedures for water usage, details on the policies/rules on the rates page of this site.

During peak seasons we have a heavy influx of calls, so please be patient if trying to get through. If you call and we cannot answer, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can.  When you call for reservations, or shoot us an email, we do need specific dates or a specific site you are interested in, as our system will not allow us to check "first available." Also, we have a new rain-check policy! Check it out under the rates page in the cancellations and refunds section.  If you have one, you will definitely want to check it out. :)

Due to some confusion with the rainchecks please be advised that PHYSICAL COPIES OF THE RAINCHECKS MUST BE PRESENTED AT CHECK IN TO BE VALID. PHONE PICTURES OF THE PAGE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Please be advised as of November 1, 2019 we will no longer be offering individual cable hookups on hook up sites. We do have wifi available on the grounds. If you are a long term resident, please contact the office for other options.

We have lots of wildlife in our area! You may encounter some while you are out fishing or hiking, so it's best to know about the area and what to do if you encounter native animals. https://www.ncwildlife.org/ has lots of useful info about our beautiful area and its creatures, including fishing info.

We are open 7 days a week in the office. Our summer season hours (May through October) are Monday - Thursday 9am - 7:00pm. Friday - Saturday 9:00am - 10:00pm, Sunday 9:00am - 3:00pm. Our winter season hours (November through April) are Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 5:00pm, Friday 9:00am - 8:00pm, Saturday 9:00am - 5:00pm and Sunday 9:00am - 2:00pm but sometimes shortened for bad weather. We also have modified office hours for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, so if you are coming during those times, make sure you call to see what the hours will be. Winter is coming, so be sure to book your ski vacation in advance! We have cabins and RV sites open now, as well as the tent sites for any of you brave winter campers, so be sure to call us at 1-800-788-2582 ASAP for reservations!

Here are a few things you need to know for the 2022 season:

Grandfather Campground

Welcome back campers! Our excellent staff has been hard at work, and the completion of some long term projects, and the large uptick in business means we are going to be doing a few things a bit differently.

The first and biggest issue is parking. Already in the rules, but not previously enforced, we encourage only one vehicle per site. For our long term rentals (multiple months/seasonal/permanent) we allow two vehicles. However, depending on the site and the size of your rig, there may not be adequate parking in the graveled area of the site. We have added multiple new parking areas to address this. 

For the sake of lawn maintenance and appearance, all vehicles, trailers, campers, golf carts etc will not be permitted to park in yards of full hook up sites, or in areas not designated for parking. (If you are on a full hook up site, everything with wheels needs to be in the gravel.)

Next, help our maintenance crew by using the most direct path from your utility hook ups to the gravel pad, and keep all extra cords and hoses out of the grass. Shepard staffs, bird feeders and lights need to be kept on the edge of the site to make mowing easier. Please do not hang lights or ornaments in the trees.

With outdoor lighting, please do not leave spot lights or other bright lights on when you don't need them. Exterior lights should be on a timer and off at quiet time. Seasonal decor and lighting needs to be seasonal. Please keep your holiday decorations to around two weeks before/after holidays.

On the subject of power and power connections, be aware you are allowed one connection to the power pedestal. All other connections, such as lights, heat tape and other devises should be run from the outlets available on your rig. We will be doing our best to handle today's volatile prices on energy costs, for example, we will only be mowing every other week. This conserves fuel and allows the crew time for upgrading and improving other utilities on the grounds. Although we do not control your energy usage, we ask that our campers be thoughtful on your exercise of energy and water efficiency as well.

Finally, just a few reminders of courtesies for your neighbors and our crew.

• The large green recycling bin at the maintenance barn and smaller recycling cans at the bathhouses are for loose cans, bottles and recyclable plastics. No paper, cardboard, bagged items or trash.

• All pets, including cats, need to be leashed and cleaned up after. Even waste on your own site needs to be picked up. As well as a courtesy for other people's pets, we do have wild animals in the area including coyotes. Over the years more than one cat has gone missing at night.

• Please keep your site tidy. Woodpiles need to be kept on the gavel pad and neatly stored. Empty propane tanks and other items need to be stowed away properly.

• Please respect other sites by not short-cutting through them. Keep kids and animals in the common areas and use the common accesses to the river.
